Void calls itself an open-source alternative to Cursor, a paid AI-powered text editor which recently gained a lot of popularity. Void is a fork of VS Code and therefore has a strong base to rely on.

Both Github repo and Void website does not offer any build to test at the moment. There is a Discord channel where you can keep up or enter your email to get notified when Void has a build ready for you to use.

Zed is an equal competitor with AI features. It is not based on VS Code and currently available only for Mac and Linux.

Zed is faster in many ways than VS Code.

Linux is becoming a favourite among developers. A lot of tools are preferring Linux versions that Windows ones during the initial phase.

Zed, now Void. The list is growing.

That is because of the open nature of Linux. There is a lot you can do in Linux, especially change things easily when compared to Windows.

Another thing is the price factor. A lot of students find it easy to play with and use Linux than buy Windows.

That is true. Windows is too big a market to ignore. But with Linux's server side dominance, a lot developer cannot ignore Linux completely.

If you are developer and are handling cloud and some kind of online hosting, it is convenient to have some command over Linux.
