There is always a market for new forum softwares IMO. I would love to see something reminiscent of IGNBoards back in 2000-2010.

I like MyBB a lot. I know 1.9 and 2.0 have been in development for some time. I'm really curious to see what MyBB 2.0 will end up being like and will probably try it out on a test forum.
I feel like MyBB's biggest issues is the lack of updates they put out, well, major updates, and the fact that it's not the easiest to modify & customize, but for a free solution, it can be a very powerful choice if you're willing to put the work into it.

I usually disable post count increasing in forums like "Forum and Posting games" as i see that they can sometimes become a more 'spammy' type of forum.

Friendly competition could be good for both parties but people who seem to be in competition with EVERY forum other than their own, kinda annoys me.
Personally, I just run my forum as I see fit and stay in my own lane so to speak.

I think my least favorite to use would be SMF......feels dated and I never could get on with it. I don't necessarily 'hate' any forum software though.
For paid, I prefer Xenforo & IPS
Free? I like Jcink, MyBB, phpBB.
Old dead softwares I used to love? DiscoBoards & HailBoards which was a fork of phpBB2 to mimic the old style of IGNBoards back in the day.....really miss that phpBB fork if i'm honest.

I went to check this out but it just seems like a splashpage now and nothing else? Can't see what the actual software looks like? Does anyone have a demo I can check out?

I think it's a double-edged sword. I can see the benefits of blocking new members from sending PM's, since people will join a forum simply just to spam it's members inboxes with BS and advertisements to their own forum or project. I used to get it a lot back in the day.
It depends, it could turn some people off if they want to PM the admin to ask questions and aren't able to.

A new forum whom you're unsure if it'll be successful, free software is probably the best option, especially if you don't have the funds to invest into a new forum.

These are really good & helpful tips to keep Google happy and some good SEO flowing for your website.
I had a few crawler bots cripple my forum the other day and i had to sort that out. They were using up 100% of my server's CPU. It wasn't fun.
