I've been tempted to get them again. I signed up for them once and they weren't bad. They use a different control panel than cPanel.

Fees over $20 are a pain, but one of my domains is around $36 for renewal. I didn't really consider it when I bought it. I guess I thought I could handle it.

I use Namecheap more has a habit than for any real reason. I use it only for domain registrations and some have said it has good hosting deals.
But I need to research if Namecheap is a good option considering other options, but I haven't taken the time.

Free speech hosting might be some niche to consider. That would be hosting where there's not a lot of censorship unless the material is obviously illegal.
Well, there might be other untapped niches also, but consider that in such a saturated market an edge is needed.

Creating new forum software is good for a coding resume, even if it never becomes popular.
And I've thought about creating it. The problem is my coding skills aren't there yet.

I don't really care about looking professional cause I'm not looking to get hired in web development. It's because I run all my own projects.
Note: I do want to break into math tutoring or code development but I still don't really care how I look on forums, aside from having very rude or pornographic avatars.

Note that free extensions like .tk, .ml etc. are no longer available.
But it's not a big deal because so many extensions are so cheap.

I've been using their Milk theme lately. I love it. Who else has seen it or other ones?
-
How do you feel about the software? How would you compare it to other types? Do you like any particular plugins or themes for it?
-
Free software can be good enough as paid for most people, but it requires some Do-It-Yourself (DIY) work.
Myself, I'm using phpBB when probably I could afford premium (I have a good job etc.), but I've wanted to play around with free software (I like DIY sometimes) and lately I've wanted to try styles from Planet Styles.

Discourse is the most happening open source forum software now. Open source projects are opting for it without doubt. They might be doing something right.
I'm wondering if you can truly run it free, or does it come with problems unless you get hosting from them?
-
You would want to take a break, otherwise the posts might seem "forced" and not from someone who enjoys posting.

I've been very curious about Wolt Lab and have wanted to try it. I know it's the cheapest premium software, but are there hidden costs and problems?
-
I like the software, but the name is a slur, honestly.
Where do they get these names? For instance, the mod for math notation is LATEX, lol.

There's so many hobbies and no time, lol. Anyway, I love computer generated art but it's not my top thing.

Jealousy is very powerful. The effects of it have happened to me many times in life.

This is one of the issues with aging scripts like phpBB, MyBB etc. They lack modern tools and features. Unless added by someone as a plugin, they are behind standard features that other CMS offer.
Less than 50 USD or even less. Depends on the person and their vision.
MyBB seems to have all you need, but the alerts system doesn't even install, so that's a major problem.
And as for phpBB, it badly needs an avatar resizer but most other stuff exists as extensions, though some are risky and not staff approved.
-
That would need a plugin. Resizing is not hard thing. But understanding how phpBB works and coding accordingly is the difficult task.
Do you mean that when someone uploads an avatar, you want it in a specific size, auto resized and cropped? It is relatively easy to implement it in PHP. Never tried it for phpBB though.
That would be a big help to the software. Do you figure someone would do it for free? What might be the price range to hire someone?

I was considering giving free posts on their forums. That might give me more members.

The worst one had its main company page go offline. That's the only thing bad that happened.
Another had all it's hosting stopped for a month due to a DDOS attack, but it wasn't their fault.
