add my_music.mp3 to a new folder under res - New > Android Resource Directory, use Resource type as raw.

Add this to MainActivity.java

MediaPlayer my_music = MediaPlayer.create(MainActivity.this, R.raw.my_music);
my_music.start();

you can also use options like

my_music.pause();

my_music.reset();

based on the name you give to the mp3 file.
