We now have quite a few different options for forum software from free options to paid options and it got me thinking, is there a market for newer forum software?
Say for example you had the know-how and the ideas for a new forum software, would it be worth releasing it with how many options we have at the moment?
Market for new forum software?

There is, for both free and paid. There are not many good and competition worthy free software. Almost nothing that works on a shared hosting package.
Then there are paid software. Some of them come with a hefty price tag.
If the price is right and proper licence is attached, I am sure a new forum software can do a lot of good.

I am seeing new projects every day. But very few that can run on a LAMP stack.
Not a good idea if you ask me. I am so used to the comfort of LAMP-relying forum software to try anything else.

I recently saw at least 5 new forum software. That is this year.
So, what do you say? Forums still have a space?

Was Flatboard there?

There is always a market for new forum softwares IMO. I would love to see something reminiscent of IGNBoards back in 2000-2010.

I do not think so. There are already a lot of forum solutions, open source, premium, or cloud, but the general interest in running forums is decreasing. Forums are struggling for survival. Therefore, I don't think a new forum software can survive.
