This is a good move. I hope it will speed up phpBB 4.0 and the Chameleon theme development.

Money is not everything, but it can make a lot of things go faster in life.

I doubt it. Even with financial support they lacks enough will power to put it through. It would have happened long before if they chose to.

I have a forum built on phpBB. The forum is pretty basic when it comes to interface because I am yet to get acquainted with the software. I believe the forum script has a huge potential and can easily substitute the premium software.

I haven't used phpBB in a long time. I've always kind of felt that it was a bit behind compared to MyBB and SMF. I'm hoping the funding will help get things rolling quicker and maybe we'll see 4.0 in the near future, who knows?

phpBB has many features but needs a good theme. Unlike MyBB, they are responsive by default, which is a huge advantage when it comes to SEO.

SMF, I read has code blocks as old as 2010.

phpBB is the best choice over the other two. They have been around since ages. I agree, very bad user interface.

phpBB just got a new minor version update in form of v 3.3.10

This version provides improved support for PHP 8.2, CDN related issues and support for reCAPTCHA issues in certain countries.

Are you using phpBB 3.1.1? If yes, there is an install bug. You will be directed to a 404 page when trying to install phpBB

This is a bug in 3.3.11 which is fixed in 3.3.12 ( yet to be released )

Solution

So server or localhost, you just need to add your folder name in the address bar like below

Where myphpBB is the folder in which you have your phpBB files.

This is a good question, we have not seen anything yet I do not believe but that is not to say we may never see something.

I personally don't use phpBB anymore but for those who do, I would imagine an update would be welcomed.

Chameleon is dead. Neptune to replace Chameleon as phpBB 4.0 default theme

I checked the Neptune repository in that thread. It has only one file, the licence.

Also, there is mention in the topic that phpBB 4 will move on independently and won't be tied to the development of Neptune.
